HEBREW SPEED LEARNING
There are many different methods that claim to speed up language learning. In fact the internet abounds with dozens of different learning systems, each claiming speedy results.
Authentic speed learning is a combination of several effective learning strategies. They include pattern recognition, reading using the syllable method, studying the most frequent vocabulary words and reading texts while simultaneously listening to an audio CD.
So lets examine each of these elements individually:
1)
Reading Hebrew using the Syllable Method:
English speakers learned their mother tongue by repeating syllables and sounds which make up full English words. We can do this in Hebrew as well.
2)
The most Frequent Words in Hebrew:
Learning the most frequent words in Hebrew is very effective. For example, the one hundred most frequent words in Hebrew make up about fifty percent of the words used in spoken Hebrew.
3) Reading Hebrew while listening to an Audio CD:
This involves absorbing Hebrew through two senses simultaneously, by sight and hearing.
4)
Pattern Recognition in Hebrew:
Hebrew has patterns in its structure which can be used to speed up learning. From an existing word in Hebrew, related words can be formed by altering one or two of its letters.
Many people spend many months in ulpan only to realize that they have achieved no more than a basic level of Hebrew and are unable to start working in a Hebrew speaking environment even if they are otherwise qualified in their field.
So its best to plan ahead and find out which learning method is best for you.
